How to remove Nissan Crank Bushes

People often ask us how do you remove the bronze crank bush or the automatic torque convertor collar from a Nissan crank easily below I will share with you a lesson I learnt many years ago from an old mechanic friend of mine that works a treat.

What you need to do is Hydraulic the bush/collar out. How you do this is find a thick bearing grease and pack the crank solid with grease right up level with the bush then you need to find a piece of steel the same size as the input shaft or the ID of the collar/bush and then place this in the end of the crank and strike the piece of steel until it compresses the grease and forces out the bush.

Most people don't have a a perfectly size piece of steel but I have used a socket with an extension before and packed the socket full of grease as well and a little bit of electrical tape to stop grease coming back up the extension hole or if you socket allows turn it around and fit the extension up the inside of the socket so you don't have to fill with grease.

You will need to hit the tool quite hard to compact the grease and for the first few hits you may be skeptical that this method works but keep at it and the bush should pop out.
