New Zealand Automotive Distributors purchases parts from reputable suppliers locally and worldwide. Just some of these countries include USA, Canada, Australia, UK, Europe,dubai Japan, China, Korea and Malaysia. We’ve built these relationships up over time and have traveled to meet suppliers where we can. This gives us access to the leading brands in automotive replacement parts. Having a small pickup depot and small staff numbers allows us to offer our customers the best quality parts, at the best pricing in New Zealand and with our famous personalised service. Our philosophy is to specialise in the parts that we are good at and do it well. Most of the large parts companies try to offer every part available, this more often than not just leads to poor product knowledge and poor customer service two areas that NZAD strives to have excellence in. 

The Story

New Zealand Automotive Distributors Ltd was officially incorporated in early 2009 by director Darren Leckey. Darren started the business from the spare bedroom at home on a $200 computer busy listing products on Trademe while a website was built. As sales grew so did the amount of stock required and it steadily grew to take over a garage- at the end of 2011 it was apparent that bigger premises were needed so customers could collect items and the business moved to where it is today in Moselle Ave Henderson.

Completing his Degree in Commerce Majoring in Marketing and Management in 2009 found him right in the middle of the Global financial crisis and trying to find a graduate job was proving near impossible so this is when and how NZAD was formed.

While completing his degree , Darren had run a small home based workshop completing engine conversions and custom fabrication for a small client base. He has experience with the old V8’s and the New Japanese Import scene with abit of euro in there for good measure. It’s from this hands on work that he has identified a need for hard parts online in NZ.

Darren has been in the automotive field from a very young age and has a wide knowledge of parts and fitment. His passion for 4 wheels started when his father brought him back a Big Foot Power wheels ride on electric monster truck toy from Hong Kong when he was 3 years old, next a custom built pedal car, then petrol gokarts and off-roaders and the natural progression into fullsize cars and it is here that his passion has grown and lead him into the business he now runs.

Learning to weld at age 14 and becoming certified saw him decide after finishing school to take up a fabrication job at well known race car builder Racepro then leaving to work part time at Barkers Men’s Clothing. From there he moved onto work for retailer Appco Auto Parts but sought a change and he decided to enroll in a certificate in business at AUT which ended up turning into a Degree at the University of Auckland.

In true Westy style he can’t help himself with the garage full of projects ready and waiting for spare time which there seems to be less and less of with a fast growing business.

The end of 2011 and the start of 2012 has been a big growth period for NZAD with the business being moved to new premises in Henderson Auckland. Conveniently located just off Lincoln Road-Henderson. This new location allows for customers to collect their much needed parts and only takes 15 minutes from the city centre. Now in 2013 all settled in, NZAD is busy building up stock and serving customers from Moselle Ave. We are hoping for it to be our biggest year yet.

It is quite time consuming and hard work dealing with so many suppliers in different countries and trying to make it all work smoothly. It's been hard slog getting the business to where it is today and I really appreciate my customers- I get satisfaction in knowing I can help them solve problems and I love being able to find parts that others can't .
